SC Bern delivers top-class Swiss ice hockey, has a long tradition and boasts fantastic supporters. And for these reasons, we are honoured to be part of the SCB family in the 2023/24 season as one of five gold sponsors.

Here we have answered the most important questions about the partnership, providing you an insight into the world of the Bears that is steeped in history.

How does StarVegas benefit as part of the gold sponsorship?

Since the beginning of the season, our logo has been displayed on advertising spaces in the face-off circle and on the player jerseys. Moreover, we are visible at hospitality services and as part of the newly designed break game “The Journey to Las Vegas”. By the way, fans can register for the break game here.

What’s so special about SC Bern?

The club was founded on 3rd November 1930, has been crowned Swiss champions 16 times, has lifted the Swiss Cup on three occasions and attracts on average around 14,700 spectators – more than any other European ice hockey club.

Draped in the colours black, yellow and red, many players started their international careers at the club – including Roman Josi (33), the captain of the Nashville Predators, who won the Norris Trophy for the best NHL defender in 2020. And there’s Nico Hischier (24), the captain of the up-and-coming New Jersey Devils, who launched his professional debut at the age of 16 with SC Bern.

Who is the most remarkable player in SCB’s history?

Beat Gerber (41). The defender finished his career in March 2023 after 20 years of playing for SC Bern. During that spell, he took part in 1,270 matches (a record in the National League) and celebrated six champion titles and two cup titles.

By the way, man who made 89 appearances for the Swiss national team now has a changing room just a few metres from his previous one: Gerber is now the club’s kit manager, allowing him to continues this unique hockey love story.

Who are the latest stars at SC Bern?

There are some illustrious names in the squad, including some players who have already shown their prowess in the NHL. Leading the way in this regard is Dominik Kahun. The 28-year-old German-Czech centre played 186 NHL games in total with impressive franchises (including the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers). He is a top scorer and key player with the Bears as well. As of this season, Julius Honka has also been bringing offensive momentum to the defence. The 27-year-old Finn played 87 times for the Dallas Stars.

Who is the Bears’ head coach?

Finn Jussi Tapola succeeded his fellow countryman Toni Söderholm – now in charge at EHC Red Bull München – in the summer of 2023. Tapola, who is only 49 years old, can already look back on some remarkable coaching successes. In 2023, for example, he took Finnish club Tappara Tampere to win the Champions Hockey League in his role as head coach.
